The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
- Cellular
- Brazil: L.M. Ericsson said it won a contract to supply an HSPA-enabled 3G/W-CDMA network to Telemig Celular. Ericsson said it also will expand and modernize the carrier’s existing network across the Minas Gerais state.
- Commonwealth of Independent States: Alcatel-Lucent said it completed the first phase of a GSM/GPRS/EDGE network in Georgia.
- Iceland: Siminn chose L.M. Ericsson to provide a W-CDMA/HSPA network.
- United States: Alcatel-Lucent said it won a three-year, $6 billion network expansion contract with Verizon Wireless that calls for the company to expand the capacity and coverage of Verizon’s CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev. A and CDMA2000 1x networks.
WiMAX - Chile: Motorola Inc. said it has been selected by VTR to deploy its 802.16e WiMAX network.
- Curacao: Scarlet B.V., an international network operator in Curacao, said it plans to upgrade its existing Navini wireless broadband network to the Mobile WiMAX 802.16e standard using equipment from Navini Networks.
- Dominican Republic: Wind Telecom signed a letter of intent with Nortel Networks calling for Nortel to provide WiMAX equipment for the carrier’s high-speed broadband service.
Miscellaneous - Worldwide: UTStarcom Inc. said it deployed its MovingMedia 2000 core network solution with SeaMobile Inc. to provide GSM voice and data services at sea.
