Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Ericsson, Nokia Siemens, LGC and more

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Argentina: L.M. Ericsson said it won a contract to build an HSPA-enabled 3G network for Personal. Ericsson also said it will expand and modernize the carrier’s existing network with its Mobile Softswitch solution.
–China: Nokia Siemens Networks said it won a contract to provide China Mobile Group Beijing Ltd. with a turnkey solution to support push-to-talk-over-cellular service. Also in China, Ericsson signed a $1 billion GSM expansion framework agreement with China Mobile.
–Cook Islands: Telecom Cook Islands said it will upgrade its wireless system with LGC Wireless‘ GSM Mobile Softswitch.
–Finland: Nokia Siemens Networks said it won a managed services contract to run AinaCom’s mobile core and service platforms.
–New Zealand: Alcatel-Lucent said it has been chosen by Telecom New Zealand as the carrier’s technology partner for a W-CDMA network upgrade. The deal is part of a $224 million mobile network investment plan that includes development of a new W-CDMA/HSPA network to complement the carrier’s existing CDMA network.
–Siberia: Baikalwestcom has chosen Nortel Networks Ltd. to extend its GSM wireless network and add capacity in Irkutsk, Bratsk, Angarsk.
WiMAX
–Mozambique: Redline Communications Inc. said Teledata de Mozambique has expanded its RedMAX-based WiMAX network in four cities in Mozambique.
Miscellaneous
–Europe: Nokia Siemens Networks said it will work with Sweden’s Tele2 to build a new pan-European DWDM network to bolster the carrier’s IP backbone network and link major European telecommunications nodes.
–Sweden: Com Hem selected Nokia Siemens Networks‘ IP Multimedia Subsystem solution to enhance its telephone service.
–United States: The Platte Valley Medical Center in Colorado has chosen InnerWireless Inc. to provide its medical-grade in-building wireless utility into its new hospital facility. Also in the United States, ERF Wireless said its ERF Enterprise Networks Services subsidiary contracted with First Federal Bank of Louisiana to install a BranchNet encrypted enterprise-class wireless banking network to interconnect the bank’s 14 locations. And in Kentucky, Harris Stratex Networks Inc. said it has secured a contract to upgrade the Kentucky Emergency Warning System with a digital wireless solution.
