The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Czech Republic: Telefonica O2 Czech Republic said it is upgrading its CDMA network to Rev. A using a CDMA solution provided by Nortel Networks.
–Russia: MegaFon said it has extended its relationship with Nokia Siemens Networks for supply of 2G GSM/EDGE infrastructure and network and service management solutions. The deal is valued at about $465 million.
WiMAX
–Worldwide: Alcatel-Lucent announced several WiMAX contracts at the Mobile World Congress this week. The company said it signed commercial 802.16e-2005 contracts with Worldmax in the Netherlands and Packet One in Malaysia. Alcatel-Lucent said it also signed deals with several other operators that have not yet been disclosed.
Wi-Fi
–United States: The public school system in Santa Fe, N.M., is deploying wireless local area network equipment provided by Meru Networks that will provide wireless coverage for 35 buildings and 14,500 students, faculty and staff. The school system is expected to spend between $500,000 and $750,000 during the next two years on the project.
Miscellaneous
–American Samoa: Blue Sky Communications is using All-IP Core solutions from Nortel Networks to extend the speed and bandwidth power of its existing wireless network.
–Guatemala: Nortel Networks said it has been chosen to supply its All-IP products to Claro to improve the carrier’s GSM network efficiency.
–United States: Nokia Siemens Networks said it has been chosen to supply an all-IP HSPA (I-HSPA) wireless broadband network to rural carrier Stelera Wireless, which owns AWS spectrum covering primarily rural areas.
