The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Nigeria: Globacom has chosen Alcatel-Lucent to extend its fixed and mobile networks. The contract includes GSM/EDGE and W-CDMA/HSPA technology to expand the carrier’s mobile network capacity to cover up to 35 million subscribers.
Wi-Fi
–Mexico: Tranzeo Wireless said it was chosen to provide wireless mesh network equipment to Desarrolladora Homex, a homebuilder in the country. The company’s radios will be installed at more than 40 of the company’s construction sites.
Miscellaneous
–Syria: Intracom Telecom signed a nearly $62 million agreement with Syrian Wireless Organization, which calls for the company to deploy a national wireless network for public institutions and emergency and disaster communications. The turnkey project will employ TETRA technology from Italian Selex Communications.
