Versa VNF software validated for interoperability with EMC NFVI platform
Networking and security vendor Versa Networks said it received validation for a new platform designed to provide managed network and security services using virtualized network functions and x86-based open hardware.
Versa said the validation came from work with EMC testing interoperability of its FlexVNF software on EMC’s Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure platform, which Versa said creates an integrated virtualized consumer premise equipment “in a box solution for deploying virtualized network and security functions in service provider points of presence or data centers.”
The companies said the platform supports various virtual infrastructure management deployments, including VMware VIO and Red Hat OpenStack Platform. EMC’s NFVI Manager software provides the product’s hardware abstraction and orchestration and its ScaleIO provides storage. Versa provides the VNFs, which the company claims can support up to 250 end-customer organization each.
“Just like server and storage virtualization has dramatically improved the cost and agility of data center resources, NFV is bringing the same value proposition to carriers and their managed service offerings,” explained Mark Weiner, chief marketing officer at Versa. “We are aligned with EMC to bring the benefits of NFV innovation to provider customers globally.”
