Sprint offering free year of Amazon Prime service on 40 GB data plans, continuing previous promotional activity with online retail giant
Sprint continues to dangle Amazon.com’s Prime membership in front of consumers, announcing a new combination tied to the carrier’s 40-gigabyte data plan.
Sprint said beginning May 13, new and existing customers can sign up for its Amazon Better Choice XXL plan, which includes 40 GB of unthrottled data and all the other features included in the carrier’s Better Choice plans, plus one year of Amazon Prime service for $100 per month. Customers are charged a per-line access fee for each device connected to the plan.
Taking a page from Verizon Wireless’ rate plan rulebook, Sprint earlier this year rolled out its Better Choice plans with the amount of shareable data tied to a sizing chart. The Sprint plans also include unlimited voice calling and text messaging while on the carrier’s network, the carrier’s Global Roaming service, unlimited text messaging from the U.S. to more than 180 countries and mobile hot spot service. Customers can also bolster their nonthrottled data allotments with an automatic data “buy-up option” at $15 per gigabyte, or just allow their data service speeds to be limited to 2G speeds should their purchased data bucket limit be reached.
Each smartphone line accessing a data bucket is priced at $45 for devices purchased with a device subsidy or $20 per line for devices purchased either outright or through a device payment plan. Tablets and mobile hot spots are charged $10 per month for access.
Sprint last year offered up a free year of Amazon Prime service tied to the purchase of select Samsung smartphones, and earlier this year began allowing customers to charge the $11 per month Prime fee to their Sprint bills.
