DUBAI, United Arab Emirates-Motorola Inc. and Etisalat, a Global System for Mobile communications operator in the United Arab Emirates, signed a contract extension to deploy Motorola’s Horizonsystems infrastructure solutions in the U.A.E., providing additional coverage and capacity on both a macrocellular and microcellular basis.
Motorola will also provide Etisalat with a GSM Rapid Deployment Vehicle, allowing mobile capacity and coverage solutions enabling targeted coverage almost immediately where extension network traffic in anticipated.
“This next phase of network expansion will take us forward toward the new mobile data market, putting the capacity and coverage in place to provide Internet services on the move,” said Essa AlHaddad, engineering manager of mobile systems for Etisalat.
Motorola noted the contract is valued at more than $16 million, with work scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
