REDMOND, Wash.-Nintendo’s much-anticipated portable gaming device will feature Wi-Fi technology, allowing players to compete head-to-head on wireless networks, the company said Tuesday.
IGN Entertainment will provide wireless technology for the Nintendo DS, slated for release later this year. The handheld device will also be able to connect wirelessly to the next-generation Revolution console.
“With minimum setup procedures, Nintendo DS owners will be able to enjoy Wi-Fi gaming just as easily as if they were playing with their friends in the same room,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo of America. “To realize this simple and seamless transition to Wi-Fi gaming, we’re partnering with one of the leaders in the multiplayer gaming world.”
