Virgin Mobile nets 350,000 U.S. users since launch

WARREN, New Jersey, United States-Virgin Mobile USA said it has added more than 350,000 net subscribers since it launched its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service on Sprint PCS’ network in July and is currently reporting more than 2,000 net customer activations per day.

The company reported 245,000 of its total net activations were added during the fourth quarter of 2002, which represented more than 6 percent of total industry customer additions for the quarter.

Virgin Mobile USA also noted more than 87 percent of its customers are purchasing additional airtime using self-service methods, and more than 50 percent of customers activated their phones online last month.

The company also reported that nearly 66 percent of its customers have downloaded more than 250,000 ring tones since its launch last year; more than 53 percent used text messaging last December; its customers send or receive two text messages every day they use their phones; and more than 40 percent of its customers have used its VirginXtras applications.
