Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel, Huawei and more

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular
–Poland: Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. said it won a UMTS/HSPA contract with PTK Centertel, Orange Poland.

WiMAX
–Egypt: Redline Communications Inc. said its RedMAX family of WiMAX products has been chosen by EgyNet for its broadband wireless network in Sharm el-Sheikh, a tourist hotspot.
–Israel: Internet Gold, Alvarion and Intel announced they are working together to build a community-wide WiMAX-based broadband network in the city of Sderot and Israel’s Western Negev.
–Pakistan: Alcatel-Lucent and Pakistan Mobile Communications Ltd. said they signed an agreement to deploy a network based on 802.16e-2005 WiMAX technology in the 3.5 GHz band.

Miscellaneous
–Czech Republic: Czech Railways awarded a GSM-R contract to Kapsch CarrierCom AG, a partner of Nortel Networks, to develop a communications ssystem along the International Corridor IV rail route running from the Czech Republic through Slovakia and Hungary to destinations in Greece, Turkey and Romania.
–Sri Lanka: Bharti Airtel Lanka said it signed a managed networks deal with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.. The deal is valued at $150 million.
