Sprint PCS, U.S. Cellular announce new devices

As carriers and handset makers brace for the upcoming holiday season, both Sprint PCS and U.S. Cellular announced new devices to entice rosy-cheeked shoppers.

First, Sprint said it will sell the new clamshell-style MM-7400 from Sanyo. The advanced device supports streaming video as well as 30-second video recording, push-to-talk capabilities and interchangeable color faceplates. The phone will sell for $230 after rebates.

“Sprint and Sanyo are clearly focused on the needs of customers, delivering innovative, high-quality devices and services that are going beyond voice calling,” said Jeff Hallock, vice president of product marketing and strategy for Sprint. “With the introduction of the MM-7400 by Sanyo later this month, customers can choose a new feature-rich, multimedia-capable device to communicate, stay informed and be entertained, provided in the United States exclusively through Sprint.”

Separately, U.S. Cellular said it will sell the new SoHo clamshell phone from Kyocera Wireless Corp. The device sports a speakerphone, support for downloadable applications and predictive text messaging. It will sell for just $10 after rebates.<
