SAN DIEGO-Mobile data company SMS.ac Inc. said it has been successful in receiving responses to daily surveys it offers to its members. According to SMS.ac, 35,000 to 45,000 members typically respond to the daily surveys through its Web site and via opted-in user handsets.
SMS.ac gathers information on market trends through the surveys. For example, SMS.ac said 81 percent of 41,417 users that responded to their poll said they want a handset capable of taking photographs. However, in a separate poll just 29 percent of 35,770 respondents said they currently use a phone with a camera. Meanwhile, 68 percent of 35,256 respondents to another poll said they plan to purchase a camera phone as their next phone.
The group also said a recent poll showed 79 percent of 36,769 participants want to listen to near-CD quality music on their mobile devices. Separately, nearly 60 percent of 35,256 participants said they would be more likely to purchase music if they could first hear a CD-quality sample on their mobile phone.
SMS.ac’s polls also help it gauge public interest in expressing opinions on world events via mobile phone. Last year, SMS.ac conducted a poll querying mobile phone users from 50 countries on their opinions of the war in Iraq. SMS.ac said the poll garnered 107,844 responses from the SMS.ac Web site and via mobile phones working on 125 different mobile networks in less that three hours.
