DoCoMo to liquidate ventures related to foreign operations

TOKYO-Japanese telecom giant NTT DoCoMo Inc. reported plans to “liquidate” a number of its international operations, including DCM Capital USA Ltd., DCM Capital TWN Ltd., Taiwan DoCoMo Ltd. and NTT DoCoMo Telecomunicacoes do Brasil Limitada.

The company said the liquidation of its DCM Capital ventures, which were formed as holding companies for DoCoMo’s investments in AT&T Wireless Services Inc. in the United States and KG Telecommunications Co. in Taiwan, would allow DoCoMo to reduce operational costs by holding shares directly, while the Taiwan DoCoMo subsidiary was deemed unnecessary following the relaxation of foreign ownership limitations. The deals are expected to be completed during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005.

DoCoMo added that the liquidation of its Brazil operations is to coincide with the expiration of its technical support agreement with Tele Sudeste that was established in 1999. The deal is scheduled to be completed by November 2004.
