The Mobile Giving Foundation, which is focused on helping charities raise funds through the mobile channel, announced plans to host its Mobile Giving Forum Oct. 5 at the W Hotel in San Francisco. The event will bring together companies, nonprofit organizations, corporate foundations, technology providers and others for one-day forum on the advancement of mobile philanthropy, said the organization.
Nuance Communications said it extended its business and consulting capability in Australia and New Zealand, including buying Information Technologies Australia, which is an automated customer services provider. The company said it will combine its speech recognition technology, professional services and user interface design capabilities with iTa’s products and delivery capability in contact center solutions.
KeyOn Communications Holdings Inc. (KEYO) and Alvarion (ALVR) announced they have deployed a 4G WiMAX wireless network in Pahrump, Nev. Alvarion provided its BreezeMAX Extreme WiMAX equipment for the network, which operates in the 3.65 GHz spectrum band.
MapHook Inc. launched a new journal and social networking application for the iPhone as well as personal computers. The app allows users to create location-based entries, or ‘hooks,’ about events, activities and places that they can then share with friends and family. In addition, the application combines journals with access to Web-based information sources.
Telit Wireless Solutions Inc. said its CC864-DUAL CDMA-1xRTT dual-band cellular machine-to-machine communications module is now certified for use with Verizon Wireless.
SanDisk Corp. announced a partnership with disc jockey Tiesto to create a music video using mobile-phone footage from concert audiences. SanDisk is sponsoring several Tiesto concerts throughout North America and Europe, and concertgoers will be encouraged to record their experiences using their mobile phones while Tiesto performs a track from the exclusive mix offered to SanDisk customers. Tiesto will choose his favorite clips for use in the track’s official music video.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency launched a new feature on its mobile platform that allows disaster victims to apply for federal aid from FEMA and other federal agencies directly from their smartphone or other mobile device.
MOG, a Web-based on-demand music listening service, said its mobile streaming music application is now available for download through Apple’s App Store and on Android Market. The application is free to download and users can access a free three-day trial. After the trial, the service costs $10 per month.
