TAOYUAN, Taiwan—High Tech Computer Corp. said it signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire Dopod Holding Corp.
The transaction value will not surpass $150 million, said the companies. Dopod will become a subsidiary of HTC following the share acquisition.
Dopod is a four-year-old mobile device manufacturer focused on the Asia-Pacific region. The company has launched six smart phones and nine personal digital assistant devices in the past two years, said HTC. Dopod last year scored $8 million in profits.
HTC makes Microsoft Windows-based mobile devices for a variety of customers. The company recently announced a deal with Crown Castle International Corp. to build a DVB-H-capable phone for Crown’s mobile TV subsidiary Modeo L.L.C.
