AT&T Corp. said it will spend $500 million this year to improve customer experience, including an extension of its business customers’ secure corporate intranets to Wi-Fi hot spots at airports and hotels nationwide.
AT&T was one of the original investors in wholesale Wi-Fi company Cometa Networks, which launched last December with plans to install 20,000 hotspots in 50 of the largest U.S. markets by 2005.
AT&T announced last week that it will begin selling bundled wireless services to its customers using AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s network. AT&T Wireless also launched its GoPort Wi-Fi initiative earlier this year through an agreement with hot spot aggregator Wayport that will see the carrier provide hot spot access in more than 475 hotels and a number of airports across the country.
