Weis joins Cometa as CEO

SAN FRANCISCO-Gary Weis, formerly senior vice president of global services at AT&T Corp., has become president, chief executive officer and a director of Cometa Networks Inc.

Larry Brilliant, co-founder and interim CEO of Cometa, will remain as vice chairman of the board and chairman of the technical advisory board.

Established in December, Cometa is a joint venture of AT&T, Intel Corp., IBM Corp., Apax Partners and 3i that plans to become a wholesale provider of secure, carrier-grade Wi-Fi services in major cities nationwide.

“Demand for secure and reliable broadband wireless is exploding,” said Weis, who also has served in several capacities at IBM, including general manager of network services for IBM.

“I look forward to applying my years of large-scale network sales and operations experience to build a high-quality, scalable network that will be and exceed the expectations of Cometa’s customers.”
