Bangkok’s PCT service to be expanded

NEW DELHI, India-Thai fixed-line operator, TelecomAsia, has decided to expand and improve the quality of its personal cordless telephone (PCT) network. The company will invest 500 million baht (US$11.6 million) in the expansion program.

Besides increasing coverage in the greater Bangkok area, the expansion will upgrade signal quality, particularly in community areas and Bangkok’s outskirts, TelecomAsia Chief Executive Supachai Chearavanont was quoted as saying in Thai media.

“At the peak of the price war among mobile phone operators, the PCT service was still able to retain niche users, with total subscribers now reaching 640,000,” he said. The number of subscribers is projected to be 700,000 by the end of this year. The service is offered by TelecomAsia subsidiary Asia Wireless Communications.
