Wireless loses out as Senate leaves town without acting on stimulus plan

WASHINGTON—Amidst much political rancor, legislative wrangling and finger pointing, Congress adjourned on Thursday without passing an economic stimulus package that could have helped wireless carriers invest in their networks and operations.

At various points throughout the fall, wireless carriers were seen benefiting from proposals to give them tax breaks for investing in spectrum or base-station equipment.

Wireless firms would have also benefited from various proposals to change the tax write-off schedule for high-tech investment purchases.
