China’s mobile carriers get fewer complaints than fixed-line carriers

BEIJING-The complaint center of China’s Ministry of Information Industry (MII) last year received 6,588 complaints about phone services. Of the 1,025 cases it investigated, fixed-line operator China Telecom accounted for 732, while China Mobile received 163 complaints and China Unicom 67.

China Telecom until very recently faced no competition, which could explain the less satisfactory service. China Railcom has started offering fixed-line services on its network offering a 20-percent price discount to China Telecom, but the company still needs more time to offer a credible challenge to China Telecom.
