WASP market to reach $3.6B by 2005

BOSTON-The wireless application service provider market will grow to $3.6 billion by 2005 and is in the same formative stages as the fixed Internet ASP industry was a few years ago, according to Strategy Analytics.

The firm’s report, “Entering the WASP’s Nest: Wireless ASP Opportunities & Challenges,” says the market’s top five or six players will control 75 percent of wireless ASP revenue in five years. “As numerous wireless Internet applications are erected … we believe that up-front, `one-time’ expenditures related to the higher-value tasks of consulting, systems integration and application development/deployment will generate the dominant revenue stream for WASPs,” said the firm’s Cliff Raskind.
