LONDON-Next-generation wireless networks are driving multimedia offerings in the United Kingdom and Germany, according to the latest figures from M:Metrics.
The Seattle-based mobile measurement firm found that while 3G users remain a small minority, such subscribers are as much as five times more likely to watch video, play games or download content on their handsets. Nearly 8 percent of all U.K. wireless consumers use 3G services, while 3.2 percent of German subscribers access such offerings.
Fewer than 2 percent of U.S. subscribers use 3G services, according the firm.
The report is the first such announcement from M:Metrics’ new European subsidiary, and is drawn from usage in the fourth quarter of last year.
“The market has reached a point to where an understanding of the audience for mobile content is absolutely necessary for mobile to evolve as a viable media channel,” said Herve Le Jouan, managing director of the new M:Metrics subsidiary.
