Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Alcatel-Lucent, Alvarion, Ericsson and more

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–China: Alcatel-Lucent said it signed a $340 million deal with China Mobile for mobile communications solutions and services. Alcatel-Lucent also announced it won a $120 million agreement with China Unicom to provide CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO Rev. A equipment as well as GSM/GPRS/EDGE core and radio network solutions.
WiMAX
–Americas: Veraz Networks Inc. said broadband wireless provider Onemax is using its IMS over WiMAX solution.
–Taiwan: Alvarion Ltd. said Asia Pacific Telecom Group plans to deploy the company’s 802.16e-based 4Motion Mobile WiMAX solution in the city of TaiChung. Alvarion also announced the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan has chosen its mobile WiMAX solution to provide wireless coverage on its campus in Hsinchu.
–United States: Nth Air Inc. launched an 802.16e network trial in Silicon Valley using equipment provided by PureWave.
Wi-Fi
–Russia: Golden Telecom Inc. said it commercially deployed a Wi-Fi network covering Domodedovo International Airport.
–United States: Xirrus Inc. said the Charleston Area Convention Center in South Carolina has deployed its Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays to cover its exhibit halls and meeting rooms.
Miscellaneous
–Bulgaria: L.M. Ericsson said it signed a contract to deploy and integrate its microwave transmission solution for Mobiltel.
–United States: Hillwood Development and Perot Systems Corp. teamed up with BelAir Networks and Red One Network Solutions to deploy a wireless broadband mesh network throughout the Victory Park Development, a master-planned urban development in Dallas. Also in the United States, Strix Systems said the North County Transit District has installed its Access/One Network Outdoor Wireless System and Indoor Wireless System to provide real-time mobile communications for its Coaster rail line.
