Sprint extends life of 50% promo

Sprint extended the end date of its 50% promotion

Customers signing up for Sprint’s “50% off promotion” received an extension on their benefits, with the program now set to offer potential discounts through the end if March 2018.

The offer, which promises customers up to 50% off of their monthly cellphone bill should they switch from rivals Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility or T-Mobile US, originally had an end date of Jan. 8, 2018, when it was first rolled out in late November. The end date of the discount was maintained in early January when eligibility for the offer was extended through Feb. 11, though customers signing up during the eligibility extension were left out of receiving two full years of the promotion’s discount.

Sprint noted on Feb. 11 it had extended benefits of the offer to March 31, 2018, with the availability of the offer extended for a “limited time.”

The deal requires customers to port their number from one of the carrier’s nationwide rivals with the promise of a 50% savings on their monthly bill. Sprint notes the offer is valid for “most plans” with the discounted monthly rate available through Jan. 8, 2018. The 50% discount also applies to per-device access fees on data buckets.

For Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility customers looking to make the switch, Sprint is willing to slash prices on plans with data buckets up to 25 gigabytes. T-Mobile US customers with “unlimited” data plans are also not eligible for Sprint’s promotion. Also, any service outside of voice calling, text messaging and traditional data usage like rollover data, streaming content or cloud services are not included. The carrier is also continuing to offer the deal to customers of AT&T Mobility’s prepaid brand Cricket Wireless and T-Mobile US’ prepaid brand MetroPCS.

Sprint is also continuing to offer customers up to $650 per line in switching fees to cover any potential early termination fee or payment on an equipment installment plan. AT&T Mobility this week joined rivals in offering a similar credit for customers willing to switch carriers.

Sprint in late 2014 rolled out its “Cut Your Bill in Half Event,” which offered just what it claimed to customers porting their numbers over from Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility. Those customers received unlimited voice calling, text messaging and a match of their current data allotment for half the price they were paying at either rival.

For its more recent move, Sprint added T-Mobile US to the mix, which resulted in some pointed bards on Twitter between Claure and T-Mobile US CEO John Legere. T-Mobile US last month rolled out its own half-off promotion enticing Sprint customers to switch to MetroPCS for savings of up to 50% compared with Sprint’s current rate plans. The offer is also targeted at Sprint’s prepaid brands Virgin Mobile US and Boost Mobile.

Sprint late last week released a new “unlimited” data promotion offering up to four lines of service with unlimited data, voice and messaging service at a lower price point than rivals.
